The Curé of Ars made himself known… first in the meeting of neighboring priests whom he would help when they were sick… This is how the Christians of the region discovered a young priest, humble and devoted , traveling through the Dombes.
Then coming to Ars themselves, the same people were able to appreciate the place up to the common meal table recognized as the “ best in the whole deanery ” (sic!)…
It therefore remains in Ars to pay attention to any priest who comes to sit down, or simply to pray apart.
This also applies to any young man wanting to discover the life of a priest.. What better situation than coming to the place itself, putting yourself to the school of “ Patron Saint of all Parish Priests ‘Urbi et orbi’ “(says the Decree)!
What Pastores dabo vobis (§ 76, March 25, 1992) says about young priests could perhaps prove beneficial for the less young, even for seasoned or tired priests.
To support young priests in this very delicate first stage of their priestly life and their ministry, it is more appropriate than ever, if not entirely necessary today, to create a special support structure with appropriate advisors and masters. Young priests will be able to find there, in a structured and monitored manner, the necessary support to begin their priestly service well. During sufficiently long and frequent regular meetings, possibly in a community living environment and by residing together, they will be given the opportunity for precious moments of rest, prayer, reflection and fraternal exchange. This will make it easier for them, from the beginning, to ensure the evangelical balance of their priestly life. If particular Churches cannot, on their own, offer this service to their young priests, it will be appropriate for neighboring Churches to unite to jointly release the necessary resources and develop suitable programs.
Multiple possibilities:
The human and spiritual dimensions are therefore linked and Ars with its Priestly Home (for priests), its Providence (for pilgrims) also has a Presbytery where many have already been able to discreetly spend the time that seemed necessary to them: 3 days, 8 days , 1 month or more…
This is also why any priest coming to Ars can benefit from the support of the Brothers, Diocesans or the Jean-Marie Vianney Society… and “will be welcomed at the table of the Presbytery”, this is the wish expressed by the Curé-Rector current.
By browsing the site , you will have more information regarding life at the Sanctuary and undoubtedly the beginnings of answers to what you are looking for.
When coming to Ars , we will try to welcome you as best as possible.
Just don’t forget to “warn”… so that everything can be prepared and adjusted in a reasonable and fraternal way.
Fr Rémi Griveaux, Parish Priest-Rector.
