Let’s be serious (but not sad!)

Why must we proclaim the Gospel and bear witness to it with new life?

For love… true: In response to Christ’s imperative at the end of the Gospels, first and foremost… To make known God’s love for mankind, and because their sins (ours) separate us from Him and trample Him underfoot on a daily basis, leading us blindly and irremediably towards eternal damnation.

How good God is Our half-Christian lukewarmness, or our various procrastinations, add nothing good, except the spectacle of sterilization and denigration of God’s work, leading us to believe in impotence on his part (when it’s a question of patience) and good (false) reasons on our side… What could God do that was more effective and more certain than to come Himself in His Son, to blaze a new trail, in a new and given life, to the point of dying through our fault, and rising again through His power?

This is what Jesus Christ is giving at the beginning of Lent, just as much because he is at the beginning of his public life, in the merciless battle against the devil who is so good at self-legitimization and seducing man with his pride and his mortifying whims of emancipation.

After that, perhaps the wear-and-tear aspect Jean-Marie VIANNEY’s exhortations to turn to the Lord, to come and ask Him for forgiveness of our sins, to honor Him every Sunday, to love Him in return every day, and to transform our relationships with our brothers and sisters, may seem less out of place and find more favorable ground with us… ?

If we love the Lord, so why don’t we go to Him and ask forgiveness, confessing our sins and giving thanks with a life of conversion… out of love, not just fear of hell? [Your repentance does not come from God, nor from the pain of your sins, but only from the fear of hell… says the Curé d’Ars, in Conversion” sermons I 386; in NODET, 65/139].

Some people, however well-intentioned in their own eyes, would have us believe that Jesus never really existed and was a human invention, whatever the reasons for this invention. Meanwhile, for 2,000 years, Jesus Christ has been telling us, with martyrs to back him up:

The time is fulfilled: God’s reign is at hand. Convert and believe in the Gospel. ” [Marc 1,15]. Many questions then arise: Whom to believe, if not the One who came out of the tomb alive, an event unique in the world? Are we going to stand on the side of the road, watching him go by? Who can we follow if not the One who brings forgiveness for our sins… for love’s sake alone?

How else can you respond if you don’t take HIM seriously?
