Long live the King, long live his Cross, his Throne of Glory!

We could add this other acclamation to that of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, who came out in such numbers to welcome Jesus of Nazareth in his last comeback.

“Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest heaven!

Never before has a king been so acclaimed in this place of peace, death and constant fire. The Son of David, the one who comes in the name of the Blessed One, here he goes from the throne of the donkey’s back to that of the wood of shame, curse and salvation.

Yet none of this makes us think of ‘king’ in the way we’re used to imagining the pomp of the court.

So who are we talking about? What kind of royalty would it be?

“My kingship is not of this world. This royalty is in the permanent service of LIFE. Because Jesus came so that we might have Life and Life in abundance.

The King of Life is the one who lives and gives himself with a pierced heart. In this way, he jealously presides over and accompanies the lives of others who are his brothers and friends, from the dawn to the respected and honored twilight.

Here he comes in his hour to accomplish everything, from the wood of elevation and attraction, the wood of the Cross, his throne of glory.. “When I am lifted up from the earth…”

In him, Royalty becomes a weave in which a tragedy unravels, leading to a universal brotherhood that proclaims and celebrates Life, self-giving, humility and service.

We are thus invited to actively enter the space and time of this coming drama. Three days of enigma and suspense, where all the cards are reshuffled, from the refectory of eternal commensality to abyssal silence, awaiting the dawn of hope.

So get out your twigs! Way up! And louder! With passion!

“Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest!”

Happy Palm Sunday and Passion of our Lord

Happy Holy Week!
