The Christian, after some trial and error, will of course answer: “the Lord”!
In fact… during a preparation for First Communion, parents gathered in groups of 6 had been gradually led to this question… worded slightly differently: “What are you waiting for?” One mother stood up in front of everyone and finally said: “In fact, Father, we have to admit: we’re not waiting for anything!” (nothing more than what we already have in our universe… and certainly not “Christ, nor Christ in… his return in glory” as we say at every mass)… In fact, that’s where we were! Like sheep without a shepherd, and lost without knowing it, they seemed to be able to move about in everyday life, but without really having any deep, absolute expectation… nor recognizing themselves as deprived of a life term of happiness!
The worst thing is not just being lost. If you’re lost in the forest, you know you have to walk straight ahead… and you’ll find your way out in the end… The worst thing is not to be aware that you’re lost, and to get by with embryonic answers that are daily renewed, revived and updated! This summer, why not reread “Le Curé de Cucugnan” [Alphonse DAUDET; in “Les lettres de mon moulin”]… if you can’t meet the Curé d’Ars these days. It could be that the two Curés had the same intuition and the same (positive) anxieties.
The crowds ran after Jesus… Even when he pulled his disciples aside to rest… “Away”! Away”! And we discover that during this time, Christ the Savior “taught them at length”… It could be, moreover, that He continued to do the same.
Why deprive yourself?
