Happy mysteries

1st joyful mystery: the Annunciation

The fruit of mystery: humility

Mary replied to the Angel: “Behold the handmaid of the Lord” (Lk 1:38).

“In God’s eyes, we are only what we are: no more, no less. We must be concerned only with pleasing him. All our merit is to cooperate with grace.”

Lord, through Mary, awaken in the hearts of young people the desire to follow you with confidence on the path to the priesthood, marriage or the consecrated life.

2nd Joyful Mystery: The Visitation

Fruit of the mystery: love of neighbor

Elizabeth exclaimed, “Blessed is she who believed” (Lk 1:45).

“A good Christian who loves God and his neighbor, see how happy he is! How peaceful his soul is! How happy are those who love God and those around them!

Lord, through Mary, raise up in the heart of the world people radiant with charity.

3rd joyful mystery: the Nativity

Fruit of the mystery: poverty

The Angel of the Lord said to the shepherds: “You will find a newborn child lying in a manger” (Lk 2:12).

“The poorer we make ourselves for God’s sake, the richer we actually are… The poor and friends of the poor are God’s friends.”

Lord, through Mary, teach us to welcome the poor and serve them with joy.

5th Joyful Mystery: The Recovering of Jesus in the Temple

The fruit of mystery: the search for God in all things

Jesus replied to his parents: “Didn’t you know that I must go to my Father?” (Lk 2:49).

“If we want to show God that we love him, we have to do his holy will. The surest way to know God’s will is to pray to our good Mother.”

Lord, through Mary, help all those who have to make important decisions to put God first.

4th Joyful Mystery: The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple

Fruit of the mystery: obedience and purity

“Simeon received the Child Jesus in his arms and blessed God” (Lk 2:28).

“Brothers, aren’t we much happier than Simeon? We can keep Jesus forever, if we want to. He doesn’t just come into our arms, but into our hearts.”

Lord, through Mary, open children to loving, filial obedience to their parents.

Luminous mysteries

1st Luminous Mystery: Baptism in the Jordan River

Fruit of the mystery: rekindling the grace of our baptism

A voice from heaven said: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Mt 3:17).

“A Christian created in the image of God, a Christian redeemed by the blood of a God. A Christian, the child of God, the brother of a God, the heir of a God.”

Lord, through Mary, strengthen the faith of all catechumens.

2nd Luminous Mystery: The Wedding at Cana

Fruit of the mystery: love for the Church

Mary said to the servants: “Do whatever he tells you” (Jn 2:5).

“All that the Son asks of the Father is granted. All that the Mother asks of the Son is likewise granted to Him… What should commit us to turn to her with great confidence is that she is always attentive.”

Lord, through Mary, foster in our hearts love and trust in the Church, our Mother.

3rd Luminous Mystery: the Annunciation of the Kingdom

Fruit of the mystery: conversion

Jesus said: “The Kingdom of God is at hand: turn and believe in the Gospel” (Mk 1:15).

“Our Lord, who is truth itself, makes no less of his Word than of his Body… It is quite impossible to love God and please him without being nourished by this divine Word.”

Lord, through Mary, sanctify priests in their priesthood, so that they may be true icons of your Son.

4th luminous mystery: the Transfiguration

The fruit of mystery: the grace of an inner life

“Jesus’ face shone like the sun and his clothes became as dazzling as the light” (Mt 17:2).

“Just as the disciples on Tabor saw only Jesus, so the souls within, on the Tabor of their hearts, see only Our Lord. They are two friends who never tire of each other.”

Lord, through Mary, help Christians to stand at the heart of the world with an ever deeper prayer life.

5th Luminous Mystery: the institution of the Eucharist

Fruit of the mystery: faith in the Real Presence

Jesus said: “Take, eat, this is my body” (Mt 26:26).

“All good works put together do not equal the sacrifice of the Mass, because they are the works of men and the Holy Mass is the work of God.

Lord, through Mary, make the Eucharist the source and summit of our lives.

Painful mysteries

1st Sorrowful Mystery: Jesus' Agony in Gethsemane

Fruit of the mystery: contrition for our sins

Jesus said: “Father, not my will but yours be done” (Lk 22:42).

“A Christian must always be ready for battle. It is in the fight that we prove to God our love and in the acceptance of the sorrows he sends us.”

Lord, through Mary, support those who have to fight for their faith.

2nd Sorrowful Mystery: Jesus is scourged

Fruit of mystery: mastery of the senses

“The men guarding Jesus mocked and beat him” (Lk 22:63).

“The good Lord does not ask martyrdom of the body; he only asks martyrdom of the heart and the will.

Lord, through Mary, help us to keep our hearts pure in the midst of this world.

3rd Sorrowful Mystery: Jesus is crowned with thorns

Fruit of the mystery: the healing of our pride

Jesus replied to Pilate: “My kingdom is not of this world” (Jn 18:36).

“Those who humiliate us are our friends, not those who praise us…”

Lord, through Mary, make the humility and peace of Christ reign in our hearts.

4th Sorrowful Mystery: Jesus bears his Cross

Fruit of the mystery: patience in trials

“Jesus went out of the city, carrying his Cross himself” (Jn 19:17).

“Our Lord is our model: let us take up our cross and follow him. If you fear you will lack courage, look to the cross where Jesus Christ died, and you will see that you will not lack courage.”

Lord, through Mary, help those in distress to unite with you in their suffering.

5th Sorrowful Mystery: Jesus dies on the Cross

Fruit of the mystery: a thirst for the salvation of souls

Jesus cried out: “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit” (Lk 23:46).

“O immense love of a God for his creature! He waits for us with open arms, he opens to us the wound of his divine Heart.”

Lord, through Mary, foster in the hearts of missionaries the desire to make you known throughout the world.

Glorious mysteries

1st glorious mystery: the Lord's Resurrection

Fruit of the mystery: faith

Jesus answered Martha: “I am the resurrection and the life” (Jn 11:25).

“Faith can do anything. My God, give us faith and we will love you with all our hearts.”

Lord, through Mary, guide the Holy Father to proclaim unceasingly that you are the only Savior who leads us to the Father.

2nd glorious mystery: the Ascension of the Lord

The fruit of mystery: the desire for heaven

“As Jesus blessed his disciples, he was taken up into heaven” (Lk 24:51).

“See, my children, we must reflect that we have a soul to save and an eternity awaiting us.”

Lord, through Mary, pour your grace into our hearts, so that the hope of eternal life may dwell in us every day.

3rd glorious mystery: Pentecost

Fruit of the mystery: the coming of the Holy Spirit into our hearts

Jesus said to the disciples: “Receive the Holy Spirit” (Jn 20:22).

“The Holy Spirit is like a gardener who works our soul… All we have to do is say ‘yes’ and let ourselves be led.”

Lord, through Mary, help Christians to fully welcome the Holy Spirit and work for the unity of the Church.

4th glorious mystery: the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

Fruit of the mystery: the grace of a good death

Jesus prayed: “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am” (Jn 17:24).

“In heaven, our hearts will be so lost, drowned in the happiness of loving God, that we will care neither for ourselves nor for others, but for God alone.”

Lord, through Mary, open the gates of your Kingdom to all our deceased brothers and sisters.

5th glorious mystery: the Coronation of the Virgin Mary

Fruit of the mystery: greater devotion to Mary

“The sun surrounds her, the moon is under her feet and twelve stars crown her head” (Rev 12:1).

“The heart of this good Mother is nothing but love and mercy; she desires only to see us happy. All we have to do is turn to her and we will be granted our wish…”.

Lord, through Mary, we present to you all our special intentions. In your goodness, deign to hear them.
