The Sanctuary of Ars belongs to the Roman Catholic Church, and more precisely to the diocese of Belley-Ars, ecclesiastical province of Lyon.
The bishop is Mgr Pascal Roland.
The Sanctuary is therefore in full communion with the Holy See in Rome.
Since the death of Jean-Marie Vianney, who was Curé d’Ars until 1859, the Sanctuary’s mission has been to welcome pilgrims, to make known the Holy Curé – patron saint of all curés in the world – and to preserve his memory in this place.
